A + S After the Wedding session at Southwestern University

I recently had the experience of shooting the wedding of A + S at a library in Austin Texas. And while that experience was incredible, it’s a story for another blog post (post pending). This post is about what happened after the wedding: their session at Southerwestern University in Georgetown Texas.

Exactly a week after their wedding I met with A + S at Southwestern. A had expressed that she really wanted bridal portraits but was afraid of her dress getting dirty before the ceremony. S had stated he wanted additional images that we were unable to get during the wedding due to lack of time and space. the complimentary session included with their wedding package became an after the wedding couple’s session.

Despite the fact that it had rained all week, that day was perfect. Just enough clouds in the sky to make prevent weird light leaks, but just sunny enough to dry up the ground. Although it was hot it wasn’t as suffocatingly hot as April in Texas is known to be. The couple were in great spirits, as seen in this photo below.

We did this session on Easter weekend, so the campus was nearly deserted. This resulted in us being able to explore the entire campus without getting in anyone’s way. While they are known for their chapel space, we were able to find some great hidden gems along the way There.

We started the session in a small sitting area surrounded by plants next to a stone building. Although I have no idea what this building was for, it was definitely a nice backdrop. This space was perfect for the formal photos and the silly ones.

After this area we actually utilized the stone buildings around us. The doors to the building made a gorgeous backdrop for some moody photos. Along one of the buildings farther back was a railing. This railing gave serious Romeo and Juliet vibes, which my couple loved. This little area was honestly our prime spot. Along with the buildings it also offered a large clock, as well as a tiny patio strung with lights. In these photos I was able to add a few Easter eggs about my clients. Can you find them?

From there we made our way in front of the fountains and shot some photos with the chapel in the background. I will be the first to admit, the chapel was NOT what I was expecting it to be. Everyone said it was a gorgeous spot, but I personally felt like it was just “eh”. The REAL star of this campus (at least from a photography standpoint) should be the courtyard near the chapel. This space SCREAMED romance. From the lighting to the iron bars on the doors, it felt like something you would see in a romance movie. Of course, we had to get pictures in front of it.

From there we moved to a few posed bridal shots, a few single shots of the groom, and decided to finish out the session with a few fun ones. To save room in this blog I’m only going to post my favorites, but for those interested the full gallery can be seen here*.

Overall A + S were an amazing couple to work with. I cannot wait to share the blog about their wedding at Austin Central Library. Their session at Southwestern University was amazing, and definitely helped to fulfill my need for a fun session.

For my photographers reading this blog: would I shoot at Southwestern again? Absolutely. It’s a great place to shoot and checks all my boxes for what I look for in a new place. However, make sure you’re picking up after yourself. While we were there, we came across multiple confetti and glitter piles from what I assume were graduation shoots. It takes twenty seconds to lay down a tarp to catch the mess. We need to be respectful of the places we shoot.
